Dr. Alan Finkell, Australia’s Chief Scientist
Dr. Alan Finkel is an accomplished engineer, neuroscientist, and entrepreneur, most well-known for his role as Australia’s Chief Scientist from 2016 to 2020. He completed his PhD in electrical engineering at Monash University and has an extensive academic and industry background.
Before his appointment as Chief Scientist, Dr. Finkel co-founded Axon Instruments, a company dedicated to the production of world-class neuroscientific and bio-research equipment. He also served as Chancellor of Monash University and President of the Australian Academy of Technology and Engineering (ATSE).
Throughout his tenure as Chief Scientist, Dr. Finkel was a champion for science and technology in Australia, providing independent advice to the government and raising the profile of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) in education and industry. He played a key role in the development of the 2020 STEM Strategy for Australia.
